With summer on the way out, now is definitely the time to start thinking about your garden for autumn. We look at the September tasks that are absolute must-do to make sure your garden survives the change in season as well as making sure all of your hard work over the year doesn’t go to waste!

Week 1


Start cleaning out your greenhouse for next year. This will reduce any risks of disease and nasty critters. It’s also a great time to give it a spruce up before it’s back in use!

Find and fill any gaps of bordering plants with autumnal flowering plants. This keeps your garden colourful before the frost.

If you’ve got a lot of crops, make sure you harvest them all throughout September and store them for future consumption!

Now is the time to fully prepare your garden for autumn and winter. Make sure any ponds and leafy vegetable crops are safe and netted.

You can now turf or seed a new lawn thanks to the helpful autumn weather. But make sure to keep mower blades high to keep grass growing.

Before frost hits, collect any remaining harvests such as potatoes and raspberries.

Invest in a compost bin to take advantage of the abundance of fallen leaves and dead plants that autumn will introduce.

Now the weather is changing, it’s a great time to install water butts to collect rain as we move further down the year.

Order any plant bulbs you want for spring to stay fully prepared.
